Welcome to the Farm @ Muscovy Duck Central! Located in southwest Kansas, the farm is where I was
raised and where I have my animals today. More a homestead than a farm, we were raised to value
natural animal management & husbandry. I try to raise all of my animals in such a manner as to
promote health, vigor, hardiness, & thriftiness. Although it's a work in progress, I'm working towards
becoming as self-sufficient as possible to provide the family with as much natural, tasty, & healthy
foodstuffs as possible. The animals I raise were chosen for the characteristics they possess which make
them an asset to the farm.

The critters...
Welsh Harlequin ducks are extremely colorful, personable, & active ducks.
Great foragers & layers, they can lay in excess of 300 eggs per year.
Muscovy ducks are quiet, personable, outstanding
broodies & mothers, and are the beef of the duck world.
The top of the list when it comes to self-sufficient ducks.
The Jersey is a recent addition to the farm. A smaller framed
cow, Jerseys produce milk with higher butterfat & protein
content than other dairy breeds. Molly is my first Jersey, was
bred for a June 08 calf & delivered the cutest little black
Jersey/Angus heifer, Holly.
Dande & Red are two of the five calves raised by our
second Jersey, Aster. A dairy cull, Aster couldn't have
been a better nurse cow adopting these calves the very
first day they were put with her. Considering she'd been
hand or machine milked her entire life, it was a great to
see her adopt & mother these babies so well!
I'm a proud member of the goats milk soap fan club! I recently began using goats milk soap after suffering from
fairly severely clogged pores & mild acne. Within a few days I began to notice a difference in my skin, my pores
began to clear and shrink in size and the tone of my skin improved dramatically! Goat's milk is a natural moisturizer
& nourishes the skin remarkably well. It has a pH level similar to that of our own skin, so it protects without stripping
natural oils. Goat's milk soap naturally contains alpha hydroxy acids & both A and B vitamins which promote good,
healthy skin! I buy my soap from Roseanna with Morning Mist Nubians in Ohio.
Pets & other critters...
After much contemplation, I have finally decided to
make some fairly substantial changes to my life this
year. I have recently sold the last of my Welsh
Harlequin ducks and have reduced the Muscovy flock
dramatically. I will be selling the majority of my
chickens and come spring will probably sell my flock
of sheep. Having a hobby that eats hurts when prices
skyrocket like they have and since I have other
avenues I would like to pursue and other obligations I
have to commit to I had to make the decision to cut
back on the animals for the time being and try to raise
more of what we eat and less of what we don't. Even
hay is hard to come by here in alfalfa country!
Sheep have been a staple on the farm since the early 90s,
however, I will probably sell the flock in spring 2009.
